I was one of the first to post on this site about getting ripped off on the meal plan by way of the school defaulting on its own contract. Now my concern is that the administration of the school is not going to have enough money to pay me after they pay back all the money they stole from everyone else.
$1,200 went to absolutely nothing and I hope this school gets everything they asked for.

Southern Polytechnic has turned into my worst nightmare. Housing is a complete mess. They tack on extra charges at their leisure. Three times I was charged for the school allegedly having to pick up someone else's trash. When you speak to them about it, the housing department exudes a sense that you are some lowly student, and that they could really care less. The social life here on campus is completely dead. The staff is rude and even the teachers are quick to admit (stating, "you didn't hear it from me.") that their computer system is a complete mess. This means it is common for the school to make mistakes in billing, registering for classes, giving guidance to students and the whole nine yards. My advice: find a better school at all costs; it is your money, and what you do with it is up to you.
Do not waste it on SPSU.

If you are thinking of moving to SPSU Housing, do yourself a favor and read this. I was evicted for having a party where I was drinking with some German foreign exchange students (all of age) on a Saturday night. Everyone leaves the school on the weekends, so it is not like anyone was bothered. This is when SPSU allowed drinking on campus. The police then went out of their way to take my K-bar, a knife used in the Marines, from my room. There is substantial evidence to support that the housing department coerced the police to conspire against us. Also had housing representatives, Tara and Jenny Cotton, march down the hallway in high heels with a snooty attitude and pound on my door in a confrontational manner about allegedly saying something rude to a Resident Assistant. I am an actual marine officer at this time. SPSU has been the worst decision I have ever made in my life. Don't ever go to this school.

I seriously considered going to SPSU. But why would I want to attend a school that doesn't handle complaints by the students? Four of my coworkers at work asked me if I could recommend a college, and I immediately advised them against SPSU. I told them about one of my friends was ripped off there, but didn't say any names. Told them to take a look at this site for further details. They asked me if this really happens at SPSU, and I replied, "Yes." You can't tell me that something as extravagant as creating this site happened for no real reason. Obviously these are real students who were truly done wrong here. Fortunately I am not one of them and never will be. And for that I thank you, spsusucks.com.

Another complaint about the Housing Office. After the idiots failed to file our payment agreement, they were brave enough to threaten kicking me out. when I showed up to the Housing Office to show them my copy of the agreement, the person who emailed me about getting evicted "didnt come in that day."
Also, stay away from Hornet Village, its expensive, you get poor cell service, walls are paper thin, no hot water, and last semester power outages were a problem. The housing office is one of the poorest managed operations I have ever seen.

I have had several very severe problems with the housing dept on campus.
An important note for this site: The SPSU Foundation has NOTHING to do with students' money; it is where PR, Alumni affairs, and Development are located. The University purposefully directs lawsuits to that dept. because they know the suit will be dismissed for "suing the wrong legal entity". This is a common practice. Take the time to look into what a dept. is/does before you file lawsuits, this should be obvious and you will have better luck getting your money back.

Do not believe what you read about Southern Polytechnic State University. The following comment was not allowed to be posted in Google Places.
Do not even think about attending this University. After the administration screws you over (and others) you have to file a case against the board of Regents. My lawyer says that the Board of Regents does not answer their phone (and probably doesn't exist), so we have to go through the Federal Bureau of Investigation to get the proper contact information to sue the proper entity. All this to get back the stolen money on an improperly charged meal plan. One of my colleagues who was wronged in the same way has contacted the president via rossbach at spsu.edu and big surprise. No answer. All of the seemingly positive things about the school written on the home page is there to sucker you into becoming a student to help their business. Bottom line: stay away.

Is a merger possible for KSU-SPSU? Chancellor Huckaby doesn’t say as consolidation plans take shape. With any luck, SPSU will be under new management. The present president gets paid $200,000 a year to be a prima donna. When not being vacuous, she's equivocating. She spends more time seeking a position with a more prestigious institution than dealing with customer service issues. The administration building should be addressed One-Tobacco-Road. If there is a merger, how about calling the resulting school Kennesaw Southern University? Both names show up and the KSU abbreviation remains the same. Its far more elegant than the clunky name SPSU has now.

We have had no issues with the administration or the billing. All financial data in our account has been easily manageable on Banner-web and all has been correct to the penny. Also, the HOPE scholarship process was seamless. The food is justified with the school size. Its not UGA type dining, but our kid has been happy this first year with the quality of food and choices.

I was overpaid over $2,000 dollars by the financial aid office. I asked if it were a mistake and they said, "no, it's fine." However, come registration for next semester I have holds on my record. They said I have to pay that money back or I can't register for classes at SPSU or anywhere else. I said that I signed a FAFSA that says I don't have to pay any of that money back till I graduate. They said that was between me and the bank and that I owe the school that much money. Long story short they paid that money back to the bank from some other source unknown, and so the money that I gave them went directly into their couffers. I'm thinking about reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. Not to mention that the teachers don't teach anything that will be on the tests. Btw, if you don't already know how to program C# DO NOT take Richard Geisick's C# class. He will bold face lie to you. The guy who runs the computer lab doesn't even know how to get on the internet. My academic adviser signed me up for the wrong classes two semesters in a row and I have been stalked on and off campus.

For all the money taken from students, why doesn't this school have a football team? They could give the obviously stolen money to the athletic department for a real football program. That would make a lot more money. The stolen money could even be given for scholarships. I would rather be full and watch football than starving and go to this school.

For the amount of money we pay in technology fees (even students off campus have to pay it) we don't get very much. I like the fact that the lab has adobe creative suite CS5.
But if SPSU is such a technological school, why is it that the apartments and dorms still use Ethernet cables? Half the time these Ethernet cables do not work. The cable for the TVs also shuts off periodically. So when I have to work until late at night I am forced to work in the labs even though I pay hundreds of dollars for my room. I would hate to be out past dark because the internet is out and have some guy rape me in the middle of the night!
SPSU just installed key cards for the apartment doors. It's insane that we have to pay money for them when they jam up the doors. We have to update the key cards, and sometimes it's the updater's malfunction. Imagine if they malfunctioned late at night and some rapists followed you to your apartment. I wouldn't even be able to save myself. The key cards doors are unsafe and a waste of money.
Avoid living on campus. They don't care about you here and love wasting money on stupid things.

It seems most of the complaints here are about the on-campus housing and meal plan. I'm a graduate from SPSU and it has opened doors in my career. I stayed off campus and never was on a meal plan. Sounds like two things to avoid.

It appears that this school has ripped off too many people. In addition to everyone else that has been ripped off at this school, there is enough evidence to support that SPSU used the launch of the nuclear power program to steal 250,000 dollars in subsidized funds. Actually the money was used to pay rent on a building. The case is now in litigation. As a participant in this project I have recorded conversations of direct lies, and although this is not proof of the fact, it certainly does not disprove the assertion. But isn't it interesting how there is always someone with a claim against this university? Always someone at the losing end, and it is never the school. I don't think this is a bad school, but the administration has to change some things. It is run by a few individuals who's decisions are made with no oversight. They do whatever they want, and are checked by no one. It's plain wrong.

A group of friends and I came from Germany to southern polytechnic state university on a study abroad program. Campus life was dead and the staff at this school were ****ing rude. Our dorm had a leak that caused mold to grow through the carpet to the inside of my closet. A couple of friends were helping me move the unit into my friend's place across the hall where I had to stay temporarily. An RA (Carrie Ann) came out of her room to yell at us. Then she called this supposed boss to physically come over and continue trying to boss us around, when we had native English friends to explain the situation in plain English. I ended up crying as this happened. It was obviously just a game. What a bunch of crap. This wasn't the only time either. We will never be back.

The food service at Southern Polytechnic State University just plain sucks. It's expensive; there is little variety; and their customer service is terrible. The school could not pay me to eat here. The workers act like they're doing you a favor (mingling amongst each other, getting to you at their convenience, trying to close off seating sections to avoid work, moving slowly as if without a purpose, etc.) Management is obviously lacking. They seem more concerned about kicking you out of the facility by 7:00pm every night than providing a decent service. At some point you have to wonder why two managers remain on duty (getting paid god knows how much) when workers are clearly given free will to do whatever they want. Simply stated, do not attend this school if you have to use the meal plan. The food service alone is a justifiable reason not to attend Southern Polytechnic State University.

I am a new student in the Architectural Program. After transferring from Kennesaw State I thought I was finally seeing my dream come true. SPSU has become my biggest nightmare. They should not accept anyone in the Architecture program if the student doesn't have previous experience in drafting, as they do not teach the basics. They expect you to walk in to your first class and be able to draw plans – elevations. The teachers don't seem to care or want to help you. You are given a syllabus and you are on your own. "Figure-out on your own," is the key word here at SPSU. I don't mind the studio as it is a place in which your ideas come to life. But even that, they require too much materials for projects, Average materials per week can run you between $50 - $300 depending on the project.. . In addition you are given extensive amounts of work that bears no relation to your ability to be a good student. It's a work overload and you are placed in a situation in which you cannot handle the other classes. Most of the professors in the first year are part-timers, with no teaching background and no patience.
Very sad situation for me...
I asked for help and was asked to change majors if I couldn't handle the work load. Also, you are assigned a chair and a toolbox, You are responsible if the chair or the toolbox walk away in the middle of the night. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL TO ANYONE. This is not a true university. You don't get professional instructors/management here. Stay away.

This site has more than enough information to know that my son has no place at Southern Polytechnic State University. That's the problem with government funded agencies. There is not enough oversight to prevent corruption and unethical actions. And because there are so much red tape involved with holding anyone accountable, they commonly get away with it (until a class action lawsuit comes along). Sadly in this case, it effects the valuation of the institution's accreditation. Luckily my son will never have to deal with that.

I'm really grateful to whoever put up this site. This has likely saved me from a real headache later. Southern Polytechnic State University has obviously done a lot of people wrong. It's great to see that someone actually did something about it. Most people (student's in this case) get taken advantage of and never do anything. This is a State funded university that runs on frivolously handled, government subsidized funds. This University is basically a money hole. So glad I chose Kennesaw.

I took this school to court (against the wrong technical entity) after getting burned on a meal plan. Customer service encounter with our food service involving disorderly conduct was absolutely horrible. Canceled the meal plan for the 2nd semester that Compass Group was here. The $1,200 charge remained on my account. Everyone including the president of the University tried avoiding my complaint, until bringing George Turner forward to try misleading me on the terms of cancellation. US congress helped me find the entity (of the school) responsible. Amazing how you can tell someone is up to no good by lack of response. If the contract this school writes means nothing, just imagine what that says about the currency of the degrees they offer. I've had better service at a tire shop.
If the money really was sent to the service provider, they should have said something like, "we'll follow up with the service provider and get back with you." Or perhaps, "this is the company that has the money; here is the person you should call." But instead everyone handled the dispute through avoidance and that was extremely unprofessional and disrespectful. When you are in college and unable to concentrate on your work, because you got burned so badly, and taught that you don't matter you'll question your reasons for ever going to this school.

This university is absolutely horrible. Even the president of SPSU, Lisa Rosbacher, cannot do anything regarding the improper charge of $1,200 that was placed to my student account. This is regarding a contract between me and the university for a meal plan that could be cancelled at any time. But when it was cancelled the school tried to get out of it. A police officer of the university was wronged in the same way, and so was another student who did not even live on campus at the time (meal plan is only required so long as one lives on campus. The administrators responsible handle the dispute through avoidance. Do not ever attend this university. The school is run by unprofessional personnel who do not know the law and cannot comprehend the rules of their own contracts.
Their way of dealing with the large negative presence is by way of creating this Google Places page and using student employees to create doctored reviews of the school. My issued survey shows that over 40% of the students here were not satisfied, many of which were ripped off through unscrupulous business practices and wrongdoings.

I am graduate senior from SPSU. I do not have problem with the administration but the worse experience I have is with the professors. The life at campus is dead; this is good place to get degree if you want some hands on practice. Overall the school is good but it has long way to go to even touch schools like Ga Tech, Ga State, Etc.
Most of the IT staff is great, very helpful and very knowledgeable and the advisors are great and very helpful. As far as professor, my worse experience is with heart field and Mr Brown.
Both the teacher may have knowledge but honestly they do not know how to deliver and teach. Not friendly professor and I heard there were lots of student who has the same experience like I did. Teaching method sucks, we did nothing but just wasted time sitting in class and reading slides etc.
I wish the administration should take notice and action and listen to the problem of student.

Saw the flyer on this site, and had to post my experience here at SPSU. This school intentionally ripped my off on a full month of housing. After paying the damn bill, I was later charged for that same month again 3 months later. Went to housing and they told me to go to the business office. The business office told me to go to the housing office, because they require housing to authorize the removal of the false charge to my account. Went back to housing to find the individual I was supposed to speak with was not there. I left a message with my phone number and email. Never got a call or email back. Went to the housing office again and they told me that Jenny was now in a meeting. Left a message again with phone number, email address, and subject. Never received a call back. Ended up letting financial aid pay for it.
Bottom line, if you ever attend SPSU stay away from both housing and the meal plan. The fact that SPSU lets things like this happen means that this is not an ethical university and should not be trusted. Here I am getting a degree from a school with a horrible reputation and one that may not be around for long. Now I feel ripped off in two ways...

I was charged twice for Rent in the month of February of 2010 at the Commons apartments on campus. What was strange was the 2nd charge February occurred two months later. Personnel at the business office told me that is between housing and I. Followed up with housing by phone and the person I was supposed to speak to, Jenny Cotton, was always away from her desk. I had everything to prove that I was charged twice for the same month. Left countless messages. Never received a call in return. Followed up with the Business Office again. They told me the charge was there to stay, because they need an approval to wave a fee even if it is stolen money. This school is absolutely the worst ever. If you ever attend here, do not live on campus. This campus is essentially a bunch of crooks, just waiting for new students to be reeled in.

Forwarded October 1, 2010 from the Better Business Bureau
A charge of $1,200 was improperly placed on my student account at Southern Polytechnic State University due to a meal plan that was canceled and unused for the Spring semester of 2010; however, the invalid charge was not correctly rescinded.
Electing the meal plan is performed annually on a contractual basis, with the option to cancel by "letting the Business Office know" within no specified time limits. I canceled the plan early with the Business Office. Towards the end of the semester, after noting that the charge still remained on the account, I informed Kasey Helton (the Director of Auxilliary Services) of the cancellation again on April 30, 2010 (effectively canceling the plan twice.) On May 3, Kasey Helton told me to wait for the charge to be rescinded.
Three months later I was told that I never canceled the meal plan, and that the charge was properly placed. Kasey Helton made every attempt to avoid speaking with me after submitting the initial inquiry on April 30, via email. Mrs. Helton never emailed back. Three days later I caught up with her at the parking office. She told me the money on meal plans had already been sent to the food service company. She urged me to just wait, stating that the hold on my student account would be temporarily lifted until the refund.
Two months later, after arriving from a business trip, Ms. Helton pretended not to hear when I questioned her in person as we coincidentally crossed paths. I wrote to Barry Birckhead (Dean of Students), and he said that he would forward my message to Ms. Helton; of course there was no response. Contacted the Dean of Students again, requesting contact information for Mrs. Helton's manager, Patrick Mccord. Called Mr. Mccord and he said that it's not his problem that I didn't use the meal plan. I told him that the meal plan was canceled and it wasn't used. Finally I told him that I'm sorry we couldn't reach an agreement and that I would follow up again at a later time. Contacted the business office. The woman working stated that she would remove the charge if Kasey Helton approves it, calls Kasey in front of me, receives a no response and, and relays the "no" back to me.
On September 3, 2010 I filed suit against the University for the amount of $1,301.50 with the Magistrate Court of Marietta. On September 17, I wrote to Mr. Vaughan (The Controller) of the the university, complaining about the level of responsiveness on behalf of Mrs. Helton, and Patrick Mccord. My complaint stated that the charges were not properly rescinded due to unscrupulous dealings on Kasey's behalf. He said that he would forward my message to Kasey Helton--no further response. In the end, I fulfilled my end of the contract, effectively canceling the contract described. I payed off the student account so as to allow for registration in Fall.
SPSU personnel have given me the runaround, been unprofessional and completely unresponsive to an unauthorized charge on a contract that could be canceled at any time. As a business owner, I have never seen such unscrupulous business practices, and yet these individuals get away with it, because students generally do not know better. This is just plain wrong, and consumers should be warned.

I too had a similar experience with SPSU and Ms. Helton and the upper management of the University.
At the time I was living in on campus housing and was automatically signed up for the University meal plan. First of which the food offered by the company hired to service the campus was substandard on many levels, the food was unhealthy, dripping with grease, and sometimes just violation of health code. (I had the meal plan previously during my first year at the university)
After viewing the charge on my account for the meal plan I made a visit to the business office and explained that I worked during the hours the cafeteria was open for business for breakfast and lunch, and had class during the dinner hours. Therefore I would never be able to use the meal plan. The business office acted very rude and said the meal plan was required and if I had a problem to talk to "Kc Helton".
I called Kasey Helton via the number provided to me from the business office and left a message that I needed to speak with her regarding the meal plan. One week later with no response I called again and left a message saying I had a concern with the meal plan and needed it resolved. No response for 4 days.
I then visited the parking office at which her office was located, upon asking to speak with Ms. Helton I was told she was not in and to come back later or leave a message. As I walked past the office on my way to my vehicle not even 5 minutes later I saw Ms. Helton in the office so I walked back in. As I introduced myself she seemed very abrupt and unhappy to see me. we walked into her office and I started to explain my situation, she seemed to be ignoring me, when I was finished she fast and to the point replied "no".
I exited the office and went straight to the dean of students who was at the time her boss from my understanding. I explained the situation to him and expressed my discontent with the level of customer service I had received, he said it was up to Ms. Helton to make that decision.
I later spoke with Ms. Helton again about the problem and she said there is no way to "get out of the meal plan"
In conclusions all roads lead to Ms. Helton and that road is a dead end. I was forced to pay ~$1200 just so I could register for classes and never once used the cafeteria.
At this point I lost all faith in the scam conglomerate that is the upper management in charge of business of SPSU. If this was a normal business they would be shut down for realistically "blackmailing" students to give them extra money to be able to take classes. How can the Board of regents and Georgia state representatives allow these people to be paid with tax payers dollar?

I moved out of the commons Apartments in January of 2010. All outstanding charges for rent, including the reletting fee for canceling the lease early were paid. Then in June, all of a sudden in March of 2010, a charge of $550.00 was added to my student account. Upon following up with housing, and the business office, they claim that I did not pay my rent for December. I responded by visiting with the housing office, showing how I already paid everything: December's rent, the re-letting fee for terminating my lease, and prorated rent for January. The woman at the housing office said that if I had a problem with the charge that I could take it up with the business office. The business office said that this was strange, because they have nothing to do with assessing the validity of a charge. They said that they could not remove the charge without approval and that I would have to report this with housing. I called the housing office several times, the receptionist said that a representative would get back with me shortly. I called for Jenny Cotton several times and even left messages on her voice mail. She never responded. I wrote several emails; she still did not respond. Finally after getting through to a manager, I was told that I would have to take this up with the business office, and that they would let the business office know that I was coming. The business office again told me that they will temporarily remove the charge, but I would have to follow up with the housing office again to make the rescission permanent. The housing office ever since then has avoided my calls and I finally just gave up, because I don't really have the time. $550.00 worth of my time has already been exhausted. This notice is here to report the business practices of this school; never have I seen anything so ridiculous.
